COFSC meets quarterly to bring partners together in a structured, facilitated space.
Sessions often include collaborative working time, such as “Offer–Need–Align” discussions that help surface gaps, reduce duplication, and strengthen connections across the system
During the meetings, COFSC uses a light, flexible structure to support momentum without adding unnecessary complexity.
Decisions are made through a mix of consensus and majority

These teams allow the collaborative to move from conversation to action while staying grounded in real partner capacity and priorities

Kelowna Food Innovation Project (KFIP)
The Central Okanagan Food System Collaborative builds on the foundation established through the Kelowna Food Innovation Project (KFIP).
KFIP emerged from the Central Okanagan Poverty and Wellness Strategy, which identified food insecurity as a key regional priority. In 2024, partners including the City of Kelowna, United Way, and Urban Matters came together to explore solutions across the food system, from distribution to access and food waste .
Through a Systems Leaders Table and a design thinking process, KFIP engaged community organizations and individuals with lived experience to better understand challenges and identify opportunities for action. This work led to the development of initial pilot concepts and, importantly, highlighted the need for stronger coordination across the system .
Building on these insights, the work evolved into a more sustained and regional approach, leading to the formation of the Central Okanagan Food System Collaborative. COFSC continues this momentum by focusing on coordination, alignment, and practical action across organizations working to improve food security.
